The post Can we re-word the Developer Intent close reason to be specifically about the why? top voted answer suggests splitting the Game Design and Development off-topic close reason into two separate close reason. That is currently not possible since we're limited to 4 off-topic reasons, but it is possible for us to receive a fifth reason if there's community consensus that we need/want it.

To that end, I ask you, the community: Do we need a fifth custom off-topic close reason?

I have added the option to add a 5th close reason for the main site; if there is a need for the meta site, let me know. I didn't see a specific custom close reason to be added, but once there is one ready to be added, moderators can do it or you can grab a CM to have one added.

Yes. Currently, we lump together two distinct off-topic categories under a single close reason:

Questions about Game Design and Development are off topic. This includes speculative questions about developer intent, with respect to both mechanics and narrative. You might want to ask over at GameDev.SE, but be sure to read their FAQ.

It lumps together questions about game development with questions that delve into the speculative "why" behind developer intent. As lamented in the meta discussion "Can we re-word the Developer Intent close reason to be specifically about the why?", this makes the interpretation much broader than intended.

A fifth custom close reason would let us properly distinguish between these two cases, giving users clearer explanations for closures. This would prevent the close reasons from being interpreted too broadly.
